The first 2024 meeting of Loving Stitches found me working from home.  Mid January dove Colorado into dangerously frigid temperatures, and getting out--even to quilt--was not a wise move.  I texted back and forth with the ladies at the church who braved the elements and kept them abreast of my progress.  A few days before the meeting I finished all the squares for this quilt, so I spent most of Saturday assembling the top.  This pattern was difficult and taught me new skills, but I am so proud of how it turned out.  At some point, I may consider making this one again with a different color scheme.   Pattern information unknown.   We left our last episode with my successfully completing my first baby quilt.     I finished this quilt a month before I left for Colorado (so the kid I made it for is almost six years old now--wow).  Fast forward to fall 2022.  I finished a quilt from start to finish.  It's an Eleanor Burns pattern called "Hole in the Wall."  Of course, her video tutorial on YouTube made it look easy.   Of course, it wasn't. Although I was pleased with finishing it, I was immensely frustrated with how many mistakes I made in creating it.  No, I'm not going to tell you what they were, but let's just say I wasn't anxious to try making another quilt any time soon. Fast forward again to a few months ago.  I was at an event on campus and Christa from our academy invited me to her church's quilting group, Loving Stitches.  The group creates quilts to give to those who have a new baby, been in the hospital, are grieving a death, etc.  T...

Auntie's Workshop continues the motto of Art + Compassion = Hope with a way for you to help bring joy and hope to pregnant women in crisis.  Introducing: One bag, based on a chosen theme, consists of Auntie's handmade baby items (list subject to change): One baby blanket (crocheted, knitted or quilted). A hat and one pair of booties (crocheted or knitted). One diaper bag (sewn). One toy (crocheted or sewn). One art piece (painting, cross stitched item, etc.). Other items at the discretion of the artist (For example:  a tissue topper and/or a purchased children's book). I was trying to think of some fun summer projects to give away and sell.  I surveyed my friends on Facebook about what came to mind when they thought of summer.  I got several good answers, so hopefully, there will be several good projects to come out of it.  One word came up several times:  Hummingbirds.  I'd never painted them before, so I tried them in watercolors today. Not too bad, huh?  This particular painting is being donated to this month's senior dance at the community center, but opportunities to purchase in other forms are coming.

This 11x14 acrylic on canvas painting is one of Auntie's charity projects.  It's a gift to our local senor citizen's center as a door prize for their monthly dance and get together.
